Pinterest and Instagram. The two platforms that I know can have great success for growing your fashion business.

I speak to many brands and businesses that tell me their number 1 priority is Instagram. And I get it. Instagram is a beast in terms of how it’s changed the fashion industry and how powerful it has become for small fashion businesses to grow in a similar way the big companies have.

I also speak to these businesses about the strategies they can use to grow, engage and sell more on Instagram. But most of these are done inside the app, and I still struggle to get people to see past the app and look at the big game changer when it comes to driving traffic to your Instagram.

PINTEREST!

Pinterest and Instagram work best when used together. Why? Pinterest is fantastic for increasing referral traffic due to its link-friendly nature and Instagram is the master of engaging visuals, which can inspire potential customers to get on board with your business.

One of things I love most about Pinterest is how long content sticks around. The average life span of a pin is 105 days, and with this in mind using Pinterest will significantly increase and extend your Instagram content shelf life.

Goodbye 24hour content….

SO HOW EXACTLY DO YOU USE PINTEREST TO GROW YOUR INSTAGRAM FOLLOWING FOR YOUR FASHION BUSINESS?

CLAIM YOUR INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT

Now before you do anything the first thing to do is to claim your Instagram account on Pinterest (if you’ve not got a business account on Pinterest yet, do that first, then this!)

That way any content that’s originated from your Instagram and gets pinned, you will get attributed. Even if someone else is doing the pinning. Basically, what this means is if you or anyone else creates a Pin using content from your claimed Instagram account, your profile picture and a new follow button will appear on that Pin.

There are so many other benefits to doing this too, but I’ll save that for another time.

POST YOUR INSTAGRAM CONTENT TO PINTEREST

There are a few different ways you can do this. You can either post your picture on Instagram, then click the three dots on the top right-hand side of your Instagram image, copy the link and go to the Pinterest app.

What should automatically happen is, when you log onto Pinterest you should get a message that says “Save the Link You Copied?” and once you press that you’ll be able to save it to Pinterest.

Or (like me, because I am a big believer in bulk scheduling) I use Tailwind * to schedule my Pinterest content. I highly recommend this scheduler for any serious Pinterest user anyway. Tailwind has the function to allow you to post your Instagram content direct to Pinterest. However, I don’t recommend this because….

YOU NEED TO CHANGE YOUR INSTAGRAM CAPTION

To something that will that will come up in search terms on Pinterest. Pinterest relies heavily on keywords as it acts like a search engine. So Instagram posts will need to be adapted to ensure you are writing compelling pin descriptions that are keyword rich to start ranking in the algorithm.

SAVE IT TO A PINTEREST BOARD

Once you have your Instagram post ready to be pinned with a Pinterest worth pin description it’s time to pin to the right board (there’s a lot of pins in that sentence!). I recommend that you have a board that has only your content in it. This could be a board that has website, blogs, freebies and your Instagram content or you can have a board that is purely just your Instagram content. That way if they like what they see on the board they will most likely come through to Instagram and start following!

Instagram and Pinterest are two of the most visual social media platforms out there, and when used together, they can help you extend the personality of your brand and build deeper connections with your followers.

If you are still unsure of how to use Pinterest then sign up to the waiting for my online Pinterest workshop and be the first to hear when I will be running this again.
